How to Install Your Sticker Transponder
-
Clean Interior Windshield
Clean and dry the inner surface of the windshield where the sticker transponder will be placed.
-
Carefully Peel the Sticker
Carefully peel the backing from the sticker. Avoid touching the adhesive and keep the sticker as flat as possible. Bending it may break the antennae.
-
Placing the Sticker
Place the sticker transponder in the lower left-hand corner or lower right-hand corner of the inside of the windshield. Or, place it behind the rearview mirror on the inside of the windshield (Consider visual aesthetics from inside and outside of the vehicle when choosing the location.)
Important!Do not move or adjust a sticker transponder once it has been installed. It will break and become unusable.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I still use my switchable, hardcase transponder for carpool discounts on other FasTrak bridges, lanes and roads?
Installation Tip
Choose a location on your windshield that doesn't obstruct your view. Carefully install the sticker so it is straight and even on the windshield.
Switchable FasTrak Transponder
Switchable FasTrak transponders (sometimes called FasTrak Flex®) have a small black switch that can be moved to indicate the number of occupants in the vehicle. It is the driver's responsibility to indicate the number of occupants in the vehicle by moving the switch to the appropriate setting (1, 2, 3+). This should be done prior to starting each trip.
Toll-free travel for qualifying carpools and other eligible vehicles is often only available to drivers who have a switchable FasTrak transponder; drivers with standard FasTrak transponders pay the full toll regardless of the number of occupants in the vehicle.
Due to processing and fulfillment delays, switchable FasTrak® transponders are out of stock until September 2020.
Drivers with sticker transponders pay the full toll regardless of eligibility.
A switchable transponder can be obtained by opening up an account with one of California’s other tolling agencies. For a list of toll facilities and agencies, visit: TheTollRoads.com/Accounts/FasTrak/California.
What do I do with my hardcase transponder?
Keep your switchable FasTrak transponder(s) to be eligible for carpool discounts on designated express lanes throughout California. You can have, both, your sticker transponder and switchable transponder mounted to your windshield at the same time. The switchable transponder becomes the default transponder and the appropriate toll will be collected based on the settings on the switchable transponder. For information on carpooling with FasTrak, visit: TheTollRoads.com/Accounts/FasTrak/California.
If you have an old standard FasTrak transponder (with no small black switch), you can choose to dispose of it the way you would a battery or other hazardous household waste. For more information: CalRecycle.ca.gov/ReduceWaste/Batteries.
Can I still use my switchable, hardcase transponder for carpool discounts on other FasTrak bridges, lanes and roads?
Yes. Will the sticker transponder beep?
No, sticker transponders do not beep when passing through a tolling location. New tolling technology means beeping transponders are a thing of the past. If, for some reason, a toll isn’t collected based on a reading of a transponder, the toll is collected using a photograph of the vehicle’s license plates. So, make sure the vehicle information listed on your account is up-to-date.
How do I pay tolls if I am driving a rental/loaner vehicle?
Do not put a sticker transponder in a rental/loaner vehicle. Instead, temporarily add the rental/loaner vehicle’s license plate to your account. License plate recognition will collect the toll(s) via your account using the payment method of your choice.
You can also pay tolls incurred by a rental/loaner vehicle at TheTollRoads.com, The Toll Roads free app or through your rental company. Click here to learn more.
Do motorcycles use sticker transponders?
Continue to use a hardcase switchable transponder when riding a motorcycle on The Toll Roads.
Do sticker transponders work on metalized windshields?
No. If you have a vehicle with a metalized windshield listed on your account, contact our Customer Service Call Center at (949) 727-4800 for information on the transponder best suited for your needs. Not sure if your vehicle has a metalized windshield? Consult your vehicle’s owner’s manual or contact your local dealership.
